Monday Night Speech Reel Shoot

Monday Night Speech Reel Shoot

It will inspire you to strive for more as actors. It’s been an amazing ride so far for the Screen Actors System members who take The System as far as Tony Petaros has HERE. Great work!

When Tony started class he was not ready to do this level of work on camera. He was theatrical and fresh out of drama

Anthony Petaros of Screen Actors System.

school and, like many of you, stuck with some bad habits. I am inspired to see the students, like Tony, who diligently apply the techniques taught in this class, who get off their act, and come out looking like pros after many cycles of struggle. If it was easy, everyone would do it. And it takes upkeep.

Consistency and staying dedicated to the training are the keys to building & keeping these skills. You will all get to this level in class if you don’t give up. And now Tony can look forward to going even beyond this level because he WANTS it.

We are establishing this level of work as a baseline for ALL Screen Actors System members. So when we climb to new heights from that strong base, we truly are reaching the stars. You will all get to this level if you follow The System. Apply yourself to it. Dedicate.

I don’t believe in talent. I believe in hard work and dedication and I believe in the System. Some people work hard and some don’t, and without that, talent won’t get you anywhere. Get to work!!!

Getting excited to shoot even more substantial work with you all! A 100 minute running time has a way of leaving an even bigger mark.

As ever,

RYAN R. WILLIAMS

PS. To all of you who shot your reels that night, there were MANY great speeches I could have chosen. I will be passing out the footage in class this week to all of you, VEGAS and EVERY CLASS IN LA, you have lots of footage coming out. Be in class to pick it up!

Let’s have a great scene study this week guys!!! Treat it seriously and treat your scene partners well. That is the path. That is how you get to do this. And the way you keep doing this level of work. It’s not as hard as it looks. It’s actually fun. But you have to be ALL ABOUT IT! Push hard. Don’t be a flake. Basic.

Be in class, don’t be a flake, work on scenes every week, get good, enjoy!

PS PS Flaunt this clip in the face of any auditor you want to bring to class. If I had seen this when I was studying acting, I would have enrolled in that school immediately. If they have questions my email is: audit@screenactorssystem.com.

And for those few of you who haven’t been in class lately, what are you, crazy! Get back to work and get back in the System before we are full to capacity (most classes are full or close to it now).

Jes Selane Super Bowl Commercial

Jes Selane Super Bowl Commercial

Just saw a Screen Actors System student acting in a commercial during the Super Bowl. Proud moment. I got more of a kick out of that then watching ads I have worked on myself play during the game. Congrats to Jes Selane!!!

Jes Selane Super Bowl Commercial watch it here!

Jes Selane of Screen Actors System. His Sprint commercial played during this year’s Super Bowl!

Screen Actors System LA/LV has booked nearly 10 commercials so far this quarter. When you work the System, the System works for you., then YOU work.

Jes began his path as an actor with us in Screen Actors System. I suspect that he will make a large chunk of money as an actor this year (already has). His secret is hard work, dedication and the System. He’s lucky, he has never known an incorrect way to approach film acting, he hasn’t been plagued with bad theatrical habits that get you no where on the big screen. He works on his dream everyday and never stops learning or challenging himself.

Let’s get going guys, surrender to the System and let it work for you. You can all be quitting your day jobs this year…follow me.

Remembering Philip Seymour Hoffman

Remembering Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman
Philip Seymour Hoffman

Philip Seymour Hoffman, the Oscar-winning actor who played everything from a maverick CIA agent to a drag queen to a Catholic priest, has died. He was 46.

Police sources say Hoffman was found unconscious at around 11:15 this morning on the bathroom floor of his New York apartment at 35 Bethune St. in the West Village neighborhood of Manhattan by friend and screenwriter David Katz, who called 911. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The cause of death has not yet been determined, but a law enforcement official tells ABC News heroin was found at the scene and a hypodermic needle was sticking out of Hoffman’s arm. The New York Police Department is continuing to investigate.

Results from the NYC Office of Chief Medical Examiner on the exact cause of death are expected on Monday.

Hoffman’s family released the following statement on the actor’s untimely death this afternoon:

“We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”

Hoffman won the Best Actor Academy Award and the Golden Globe Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture Drama for his leading role in the 2005 film “Capote,” which detailed the five-year period during which author Truman Capote penned “In Cold Blood.”

He was nominated for three Best Supporting Actor Oscars, for “The Master,” “Doubt,” and “Charlie Wilson’s War.”

The second of four children, Hoffman was born on July 23, 1967 in Fairport, N.Y., to mother Marilyn O’Connor (née Loucks), a lawyer, and father Gordon Stowell Hoffman who worked for Xerox.

He graduated with a BFA in drama from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1989 and began his film career in 1991, starring in his debut role in the indie production “Triple Bogey on a Par Five Hole.”

Hoffman’s breakthrough role came in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Boogie Nights” (1997), after which he quickly became known for his leading and supporting roles on the big screen, including Todd Solondz’s “Happiness” (1998), “Flawless” (1999), “The Talented Mr. Ripley” (1999), Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Magnolia” (1999), “Almost Famous” (2000) and “State and Main” (2000).

In 2005, Hoffman starred in the role that would lead him to win the Los Angeles Film Critics Award as Best Actor for his performance in “Capote.” The next year, he won an Oscar for the same part.

He also proved himself a capable theater actor on Broadway, receiving two Tony nominations for Best Actor in 2000 for a revival of Sam Shepard’s “True West” and again in 2003 for a revival of Eugene O’Neill’s “Long Day’s Journey into Night.”

In 2012, Hoffman starred as Willy Loman in the Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, receiving rave reviews from critics and his third Tony Award nomination as Best Leading Actor in a Play.

Hoffman made his film directorial debut in 2010 with “Jack Goes Boating.” More recently Hoffman appeared in Hunger Games: Catching Fire.

Hoffman has previously been in rehab for drug and alcohol addiction. In his early twenties, Hoffman said he started abusing drugs not long after graduating from his degree at NYU.

“I went [to rehab], I got sober when I was 22 years old,” Hoffman revealed during a 2006 interview with CBS News’ “60 Minutes.” “You get panicked … and I got panicked for my life.”

He also said he was lucky he got sober before becoming famous and had the money to feed his addiction.

“I have so much empathy for these young actors that are 19 and all of a sudden they’re beautiful and famous and rich,” he said in the interview. “I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I’d be dead.”‘

The actor said he kicked the habit for 23 years and had remained sober until May 2013 when he briefly relapsed and returned to rehab after admitting to snorting heroin.

Hoffman’s death comes one day after representatives issued a statement denying a report about the actor’s death earlier in the week.

He is succeeded by his girlfriend, costume designer Mimi O’Donnell, their son, Cooper, 10 and two daughters, Tallulah, 7, and Willa, 5.

Acting Advice From Robert De Niro

This clip from the Actors Studio with Robert De Niro says a great deal about minimum movement, one of the staples of Screen Actors System. Remember to enforce the basic standards of class as you prepare your scenes for this week. Bring the new students into the system and pass along your own knowledge.

That will make YOU stronger, and you are doing your fellow actor’s a service.
Work hard guys. Put in the time this week in you rehearsals and really push yourselves. I want breakthroughs this week!

IMDB BIO

Robert De Niro, who is thought of as one of the greatest actors of his time, was born in New York City in 1943 to two artists. He first gained fame for his role in Bang the Drum Slowly(1973), but he gained his reputation as a volatile actor in Mean Streets (1973), which was his first film with director Martin Scorsese. In 1974 De Niro received an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his role in The Godfather: Part II (1974) and received Academy Award nominations for best actor in Taxi Driver (1976), The Deer Hunter (1978), and Cape Fear (1991). He won the best actor award in 1980 for Raging Bull (1980). De Niro currently heads his own production company, Tribeca Film Center, and made his directorial debut in 1993 with A Bronx Tale (1993).”

Screen Actors System Blackmagic Camera

Screen Actors System Blackmagic Camera

Blackmagic Cinema Camera Rig

Say hello to Screen Actors System’s new little friend, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera. This is the new rig we will be shooting reels and in-class exercises on. Finally a camera that is manageable in class and shoots in a full cinema format! And I am super excited about the new DaVinci color correction system that I got to go along with it. THAT is a huge game changer. Same system that Hollywood uses and now, Screen Actors System has it!

 Here’s the description from Blackmagic’s website…

“Elegant, sophisticated and jam packed with the latest digital cinema technology, Blackmagic Cinema Camera gives your work that timeless feature film look! Blackmagic Cinema Camera features an amazing 2.5K image sensor with a wide 13 stops of dynamic range for a true digital film camera. You get a built-in SSD recorder, popular open standard uncompressed RAW and compressed file formats, compatibility with quality EF or Passive Micro Four Thirds lenses, LCD touchscreen monitoring plus metadata entry, all packed into an exciting hand held design! There are two exciting models to choose from depending on the lens mount you prefer!”

DaVinci Resolve Color Correction System

DaVinci Resolve Color System

“Invented in partnership with Hollywood studios, DaVinci has been the standard in post production for over 30 years. DaVinci Resolve is the real time grading system that’s been used worldwide on more feature films, episodic television productions, commercials, independent films and music videos than any other. DaVinci color correction is the difference that makes high end work so breathtaking!”

Screen Actors System Is Back!!!

SCREEN ACTORS SYSTEM IS BACK!!! See you all at the Hampton this week.

Read all of this GOOD NEWS BELOW…how to make up missed class if you are not back from winter break / TWO FREE CLASSES FOR EVERYONE [Past and present members both included]!

WEDNESDAY NIGHT class your reels from last cycle will be passed out this week (remember it is the first week of your new cycle and payment is due for WED NIGHT class this week as well).

MONDAY NIGHT class, its on tomorrow. You guys need to bring it strong.

I know my most hardcore and dedicated students will be in class this week and I wanna see some copy that’s on this post!

The good new is about Wednesday day class (2pm at the Hampton this week).

GOOD NEWS IS Wednesday day class is free for all past and present members this week and next. Bring your scene partners. Use them as make up classes or as extra time on the path. No excuses for those of you who are tight on money. These next two Wed day classes are FREE! (Wed day regulars you are on week 3 in your cycle–so you got a free week as well).

Now let’s all make a new years resolution to not let excuses/laziness/lack of focus and proper training steal another year.

Its time to live the dream guys. It does not get any closer. You have to run to catch it now.

Sprint. Like its getting away. Because in this race if you are not running…the dream is going to pass you by.

You can afford to be in this class because you can not afford to waste any more time.

HERE’S TO 2014! The year Screen Actors System becomes legendary!

RYAN R. WILLIAMS BBC RADIO INTERVIEW

MERRY CHRISTMAS GANG!!! As you look forward to your goals for the new year, here is a bit on inspiration. I regaled the Wednesday Night class with tales about breaking into Hollywood in my early days in LA. I’ve attached a link to a BBC Radio interview I did about some of the bold shenanigans that opened the doors for me. I put it on youtube last night just so you could all hear it.

You will all get a kick out of watching this link. Fortune favors the bold!

Be bold, be in class and be ready to cash more checks then you write from your acting. HERE IS TO 2014!!! IT IS THE YEAR OF SCREEN ACTORS SYSTEM!!! And when we shoot our feature film, win major festivals, get distribution and make working actors of you all…this class will be the stuff of LEGEND!

Our story is about to meet it’s inciting incident. The readiness is all…see you next year.

Ryan R. Williams BBC Radio Interview

‘This a 2003 BBC radio interview featuring director Ryan R. Williams. It details the filmmakers’ freshman exploits breaking into Hollywood. This International press story, written by Guardian Observer London journalist, Tim Cooper and adapted into the forthcoming feature film, “Making Abbey Singer.'”

Text Analysis Class

TEXT ANALYSIS INTENSIVE in day class this Wednesday!

Black Magic Cinema Camera
Black Magic Cinema Camera

FREE TO ALL MEMBERS. Come at 4pm! OR…come and do the entire class at 2pm if you have a scene to put up (we will be doing scene study at the top of class in the afternoon class on Wednesday). WANT ALL THE MYSTERIES OF YOUR SCENES/SIDES REVEALED? Then come at 4pm and the second half of class and I will enlighten you. You will never look at a script the same way again. I am giving you guys opportunities for extra study while I can. So take advantage of this before the Wed day class is full in the new year and I am not able to open it up like this (you may also use Wed day class as a make up class if you miss one, until mid January or so). WEDNESDAY CLASS WILL BE OPEN TO ALL WHO CAN MAKE IT AT 4pm for the text analysis/asst. storytelling deep clean!!! I will be breaking down a scene and you all will have copies that I will provide. And if you want to do the entire class feel free to come at 2pm and bring a scene (or an auditor, don’t forget by offer–if you get two people to join you will get a cycle on me)! PS: We are NOT shooting in Wed class this week! We will have to carry forward that make up shoot until next cycle, we will be shooting on the last day of the cycle, so not this week, but next week. I am waiting for a new camera to arrive in January for that extra shoot, I’d rather shoot on the new 4k Black Magic. It will be sweet!
